BOMA names Aon Center and Accenture Tower among outstanding buildings of the year

by Rebecca Walker — July 9, 2010—The Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA) has named the Jones Lang LaSalle-managed Aon Center in Chicago and Minneapolis’ Accenture Tower, overseen by CB Richard Ellis, among the commercial real estate industry group’s outstanding buildings of the year.

In all, BOMA recognized 14 properties with The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) awards at the organization’s annual conference at the end of June in Long Beach, Calif.

The TOBYs honor excellence in office building management and operations. To be eligible for the international association’s award, properties must win local and regional contests.

Here are buildings that received awards in the 14 TOBY categories:

  • Building Over One Million Square Feet: Aon Center, Chicago, managed by Jones Lang LaSalle Americas (Illinois) LP, owned by Piedmont Office Realty Trust.

  • Building 500,000 to One Million Square Feet: L Accenture Tower, Minneapolis, managed by CB Richard Ellis and owned by CalSTRS.

  • Building 250,000 to 499,999 Square Feet: 300 West 6th, Austin, Texas, managed by Thomas Properties Group Inc., owned by TPG-300 West 6th Street LLC.

  • Building 100,000 to 249,999 Square Feet: Manulife Place, Vancouver, British Columbia, owned and managed by Manulife Financial.

  • Building under 100,000 Square Feet: Port Huron Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse, Port Huron, Michigan, owned and managed by the U.S. General Services Administration.

  • Industrial Office Park: Legacy Center Business Park, Houston, Texas, owned and managed by Liberty Property Trust.

  • Renovated Building: Park Central 789, Dallas, Texas, managed by Parmenter Realty Partners, owned by Parmenter Park Central, Lp.

  • Medical Office Building: OHSU Center for Health and Wellness, Portland, Oregon, managed by CB Richard Ellis, Inc., owned by RIMCO, LLC.

  • Government Building: Howard M. Metzenbaum U.S. Courthouse, Cleveland, Ohio, owned and managed the U.S. General Services Administration.

  • Corporate Facility: Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse, St. Catharines, Ontario, managed by Ontario Realty Corporation and owned by Ontario Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

  • Historical Building: Pembroke Courthouse, Pembroke, Ontario, managed by Ontario Realty Corporation and owned by Ontario Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

  • Earth Category: Collier Center, Phoenix, Arizona, managed by CB Richard Ellis and owned by GE US Pension Trust.

  • Mid-Rise Suburban Office Park: Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas, managed by Crescent Real Estate Equities LP, owned by Crescent Crown Greenway Plaza SVP LLC/Crescent Nine Greenway SVP LLC.

  • Low-Rise Suburban Office Park: Ballantyne Corporate Park, Charlotte, North Carolina, managed by The Bissell Companies Inc., owned by H.C. Bissell.
