by Brianna Crandall — June 25, 2018 — The Board of Trustees of BOMI International, the Independent Institute for Property and Facility Management Education, recently approved BOMI course competency credit for professionals who already hold ProFM or LEED credentials.
The commercial real estate and facilities management (FM) industries place a high value on the variety of credentials available to professionals. In some areas, content between credentials can overlap. After a thorough review, BOMI International is recognizing credentials from the Professional Facility Management Institute (ProFMI) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to award competency for specific BOMI courses.
ProFM, LEED Green Associate, and LEED-AP credential holders can now take advantage of additional credit towards earning their Facilities Management Administrator (FMA) and High-Performance Sustainable Building (BOMI-HP) designations.
Holly Bentley, chief learning officer of BOMI International, remarked:
BOMI International is very proud of its longstanding history and reputation in the profession as a leader in the delivery and creation of comprehensive credentials in support of career and skills advancement. Our Board and leadership are very thoughtful when it comes to recognizing other organizations’ contributions to ensure that competency relationships meet our quality standards and maintain the integrity and credibility of our credentials. Based on a comprehensive review process, it has been determined that professionals who complete these experiences have met those standards.
ProFM credentials
The ProFM credential is designed to provide modern, practical, and complete facility management knowledge and skills to facility professionals around the globe. Competency credit for the Fundamentals of Facilities Management course is granted to ProFM credential holders. Completion of the ProFM program also provides a strong advantage toward success in many of BOMI’s FMA designation courses.
LEED credentials
Professionals also receiving BOMI course competency are LEED credential holders. The LEED Green Associate exam measures general knowledge of green building practices and how to support others working on LEED projects.
The LEED-AP exams measure knowledge about green building, a specific LEED rating system, and the LEED certification process. Recipients of these credentials receive competency for BOMI International’s High-Performance Sustainable Building Principles course, an essential piece of the High-Performance Sustainable Buildings (BOMI-HP) Designation program.
BOMI International Board of Trustee members George Denise and Trish Faidiga recently earned their BOMI-HP credentials. “The BOMI-HP designation provides an advantage in the commercial real estate industry,” said Faidiga, president of Advantage Building & Realty Services.
LEED Credential holders who apply for competency will only need to complete the remaining two courses, High-Performance Sustainable Building Practices and High-Performance Sustainable Building Investments to earn their BOMI-HP designation.
