British Institute of Facilities Management appoints Gareth Tancred as new CEO

by Brianna Crandall — February 27, 2012—The Board of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) has appointed Gareth Tancred as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Institute, with immediate effect. Tancred has been carrying out the role of CEO on an acting then interim basis since October 2011, when former CEO Ian Fielder resigned after seven successful years to pursue new interests outside of BIFM. Tancred has been chief operating officer (COO) with the Institute since 2009, and has extensive experience both at the board level and as an executive director.

Commenting on the appointment, Chairman Ian Broadbent said, “Gareth has proved to be a very competent interim appointment providing stability whilst at the same time introducing new ways of working and setting a foundation for future growth. I look forward to supporting Gareth during my remaining time as chair as we work together to advance our profession.”

Gareth commented on the appointment, “I am delighted to have been selected by the Board to take on the role of CEO and look forward to keeping up the great work and momentum of the Institute’s development to ensure we deliver what the sector needs. Driving forward the strategy set out by the Board is integral to the success of the Institute and to the support and advancement of this fast-paced profession.”
