BSI obtains global accreditation for ISO 50001 energy management standard

by Shane Henson — March 13, 2013—BSI, a global provider of standards developed to help organizations improve, announced that it recently received official accreditation status from the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for the Energy Management Systems Standard, ISO 50001.

ISO 50001 represents the latest best-practice thinking in energy management and supports organizations in all sectors to use energy more efficiently through the development of an energy management system, says BSI. The standard outlines what organizations need to consider to develop and implement a robust energy policy, establishing targets, objectives and action plans to control energy use.

“We have been at the forefront of developing sustainability standards, and achieving accreditation for ISO 50001 reinforces our position in this marketplace,” says Gary Fenton, global director of assurance at BSI. “Organizations that embed good energy management practice not only enhance their energy performance and consumption but also save money and reduce carbon emissions.”

To gain accredited status, BSI was independently assessed to ensure it operates at the highest level of quality and service. This provides assurance to clients that the certificates issued to them are both credible and impartial, says the company.
