by jb060410 c3 — June 11, 2010—Research and consultancy organization BSRIA is working to “unravel the spaghetti” that is European energy legislation. In an article titled “European Energy Legislation Explained,” Gambi Chiang takes the challenge of explaining the current U.K. energy regulations and the overarching European Union regulations, as well as briefly summarizing legislation in other European countries.
As Chiang explains it, “Today, design engineers have to satisfy carbon emission targets, massage their designs through the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM), meet the Target Emissions Rate (TER) and thereby obtain a good Energy Performance Certificate, comply with the planning regulations regulated by the local government, and find ways of unlocking finance from various government green energy schemes. Oh, and achieve BREEAM Excellent while they’re at it.”
Chiang’s full explanation is available on the BSRIA Web site, and includes the E.U.’s timeline for legislation and the U.K.’s timeline for enhancing this legislation. BSRIA also publishes a quarterly in-depth market report called EU Energy Legislation Impacts on HVAC Products, available by subscription from BSRIA.
