by Rebecca Walker — March 11, 2011—BSRIA, the consultancy, test, instruments and research organization, is set to publish the fifth edition of its Rules of Thumb in April.
The new edition of the guidelines for building derives information from industry practice and experience rather than theory, says BSRIA. It is useful for calculating values, setting outline targets and comparing different options during the early stages of the design process.
New features in the latest guide include:
- Increased guidance on space and weight allowances;
- CO2 emissions benchmarks;
- Clearer guidance on costs, to now include energy consumption, maintenance, operation and life cycle cost information;
- A system features section, sub-divided into M&E systems; and
- Guidance about compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations, renewable technologies and air permeability of buildings.
- CO2 emissions benchmarks;
