by Brianna Crandall — April 22, 2015—A new “open standard” has been developed by the U.K.-based cross-industry Workplace Management Foundation, called The Workplace Management Framework . The Framework sets out 10 management capabilities and supporting best practices needed to deliver an effective modern workplace experience that is fully aligned to the strategy of the organization.

The Building Futures Group, the trade association for the U.K. facilities management/cleaning industry created from the merger of Asset Skills, the Cleaning and Support Services Association (CSSA), and the Facilities Management Association (FMA), says it is supporting the new standard as part of its continual quest to promote best practices in the management of the workplace.

The intention is that the framework will provide a common language between occupier organizations and suppliers, enhance the professional standing of the industry, and be used as a baseline for the specification, measurement and improvement of management capabilities in the industry. The Building Futures Group is supporting the promotion of the framework as a useful tool with which to develop an organization.

To bring the Framework to life, the Workplace Management Foundation will be launching a tablet-based online platform that will allow service providers, consultants, and real estate and facilities professionals to evaluate the maturity of their workplace management activities against the Framework and develop improvement programs. Those who register their interest will be informed upon its release.

The development of The Workplace Management Framework has been led by Andrew Mawson and Dr. Graham Jervis at AWA (Advanced Workplace Associates) with the support of a cross-industry group. It is intended to be an open, independent platform, and stakeholders are encouraged to ask for more information, share the Framework, and send the group their feedback.

The current version of the Workplace Management Framework, pre-launched at Workplace Week on Nov 6, 2014, is available online as a free download.
