by Brianna Crandall — March 14, 2011—The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) has published a Sustainable Communities Toolkit reflecting the transition currently underway in the green building community, broadening thinking from a building scale to a community scale.
The 248-page publication follows the Municipal Green Building Toolkit, which CaGBC developed in 2006 to help the broader network of public sector owners understand how they, too, can address climate change and infrastructure challenges through the development of green building policies and programs.
The new Sustainable Communities Toolkit, which CaGBC says is a work in progress like its predecessor, is divided into seven sections, described as tools. They are:
- Tool 1: Introduction
- Tool 2: Community Planning
- Tool 3: Natural Environment
- Tool 4: Transportation
- Tool 5: Buildings
- Tool 6: Infrastructure
- Tool 7: Energy
- Tool 2: Community Planning
The Sustainable Communities Toolkit, free for CaGBC members, is available from the CaGBC Document Store.
