by Ann Withanee — October 4, 2010—UGL Unicco, a subsidiary of UGL Limited, has announced the renewal of its contract with Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. The new five-year agreement expands the previous facilities services management contract to include custodial services, residence housekeeping services, subcontractor management, as well as operations and maintenance.

UGL Unicco’s 150 employees clean and maintain 4 million square feet in all 45 buildings on the Rideau River campus, supporting 23,000 full-time students and a faculty/staff of 2,300. Under the contract, UGL Unicco is also responsible for full maintenance at the Ice House, the cornerstone of the Carleton Athletics Recreation Centre, as well as ice resurfacing for the double pad arena. The company has also been contracted to service two new buildings currently under construction that are due for completion in 2011.

Campus-wide sustainability is at the center of UGL Unicco’s approach, says UGL Unicco. The company is applying advanced cleaning and maintenance technologies and practices through its award-winning UGL Unicco GreenClean facilities services program. This approach is important on college campuses, especially for residences, athletic and dining facilities, where achieving the highest levels of cleanliness while improving indoor air quality is paramount.

UGL Unicco GreenClean includes employee training, the use of sustainable cleaning chemicals and techniques, and special communication and sustainability programs with students, faculty and staff.
