by Brianna Crandall — May 16, 2012—Responding to customer and industry demands, Carrier now offers its highest-efficiency commercial packaged rooftop HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) units ever, the WeatherExpert Series in 3- to 5-ton sizes. These ENERGY STAR-rated models meet or exceed the Consortium of Energy Efficiency (CEE) rebate levels with Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) ratings up to 17.5, and they exceed the current federal minimum energy requirements by more than 34 percent.
Similar to other models in the Carrier Weather Series line, the WeatherExpert units were designed to fit on Carrier-similar roof curbs that have been installed over the last 30 years, making replacement or new construction easy. No matter how extreme the weather is, these rooftops were designed to provide comfort, increased efficiency, and lower operating costs. The units also reportedly offer more consistent cooling comfort with their single-zone variable air volume control logic.
The WeatherExpert is available with a multispeed scroll compressor and ECM (electronically commutated motor) outdoor fan motor. In addition, customers have the option of choosing an ECM indoor fan motor or indoor belt variable frequency drive (VFD) system, depending on the specific application.
“The ECM system delivers optimal comfort and energy savings at both full- and part-load conditions,” added Alcorn. “We also designed the WeatherExpert for use with either simple electro-mechanical controls, with ComfortLink controls for in-depth diagnostics setup through a visual scrolling marquee, or with i-Vu controls for effective building system control.”
Carrier WeatherExpert units are offered with a range of factory options, such as energy-efficient air economizers, smoke detectors, and much more. Units are also field-convertible to horizontal airflow for easy adjustment at a jobsite. Easy-access handles provide quick entry for routine maintenance.
