by Brianna Crandall — April 24, 2019 — Global real estate advisor CBRE together with international real estate accreditation organization the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) celebrated International Women’s Day by announcing the launch of a new book, Managing Diversity and Inclusion in the Real Estate Sector, at MIPIM 2019 in Cannes.
Co-authored by real estate veterans Amanda Clack, FRICS, head of Strategic Advisory at CBRE, and Judith Gabler, acting managing director, Europe, for RICS, the book places diversity and inclusion (D&I) at the center of successful real estate and construction organizations.
The book provides guidance to — and most importantly actions for — professionals in the sector who want to make D&I an inherent part of the culture of their organization. The book aims to educate the real estate sector about what diversity and inclusion entails and how a D&I strategy can be implemented to secure future success.
It presents a practical and easy-to-read guide that can help organizations and their leaders engage with and apply this agenda to win the war for talent in real estate and construction. It seeks to be about action, not words, and to help those in the sector #BeTheChange.
Co-author Clack pointed out:
Research shows that high-performing organizations focus on diversity and inclusion. In any workplace, it is important to both understand and recognize the benefits that having a D&I workforce provides. It is integral to developing people within an organization, serving clients as best we can, and playing an important leadership role in communities. We truly hope that this book will herald a step change in the role of D&I.
Co-author Gabler added:
This book is essential reading for all property leaders and professionals working in the real estate and construction sectors. Readers will gain from the personal reflections on all aspects of diversity by a broad range of people working in the property industry.
Ciaran Bird, UK managing director, CBRE, and one of several real estate leaders to contribute industry insights to the book, commented:
Diversity is not about ticking boxes, you have to believe it and implement real change, starting with education. This is a fascinating book, which really brings home the point that no business can afford to underestimate the commercial imperative of having a diverse and collaborative workforce.
