Champion AC launches energy efficiency competition for San Antonio businesses

by Shane Henson — April 11, 2012—Champion AC, an all-in-one air-conditioning service company located in San Antonio, Texas, has launched an energy efficiency competition created to educate the public and businesses about the importance of energy efficiency. The competition will run through the year, with the completion date of March 31, 2013.

According to Champion AC, this innovative competition is a new aspect of its San Antonio Energy Champions (SAEC) initiative, and will provide businesses and buildings in San Antonio with the chance to improve their energy efficiency and move the Alamo City toward a greener future. The building that demonstrates the greatest percentage-based reduction in weather-normalized energy use intensity during the 12-month performance period will be recognized as the inaugural winner. Measurements will be made by percentage of reduction of kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Each participating entity will be required to send a copy of the monthly kWh reading on its energy bill (or a copy of the full bill) to the SAEC contact. The bills will not be shared publicly, in order to preserve privacy for the companies, says AC Champion. The only public information shared will be the overall percentage change in kWh at the end of the competition.

The company says it aspires to make an impact locally and on a wider scale, in hopes that other cities will join in the energy efficiency movement and take steps toward greener living.
