CIBSE awards celebrate low carbon performance, excellence in design

by Brianna Crandall — February 18, 2011—The U.K.’s CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) has announced the 2011 CIBSE Building Performance Awards, which are designed to reward excellence in sustainable and aspirational buildings and raise industry standards by recognizing those who are designing and managing the U.K.’s most sustainable and innovative projects and products. The awards showcase the best examples of actual low carbon performance in practice, allied to excellence in the design, construction, and operation of buildings of all types.

Ernest Griffiths took the accolade for Refurbishment Project of the Year, for a project transforming a poorly performing 1960s office building into a modern, efficient and sustainable working environment. JPW won New Build Project of the Year for Canolfan Hyddgen in Machynlleth, Wales, the first non-domestic certified Passivhaus office building in the U.K. Product of the Year went to Laing O’Rourke/BDP for their product range of faades and frame solutions.

The 2011 award winners are:

  • Building Services Consultancy of the Year: Atelier Ten Limited
  • Client of the Year—Large: Better Buildings Partnership
  • Client of the Year—Public Sector: Metropolitan Housing Trust
  • Commissioning Project of the Year: EDP Consulting Ltd, Co-op foodstorev
  • Integrated Project Team of the Year: Hoare Lea
  • New Build Project of the Year: JPW Construction, Canolfan Hyddgen
  • Passive (energy-related) Product of the Year: Laing O’Rourke & BDP
  • Energy-using Product: Zehnder
  • Refurbishment Project of the Year: Elizabeth II Court
  • Training for Building Performance Award: ABS Consulting
