by Shane Henson — December 7, 2011—SightLogix, a manufacturer of outdoor area and perimeter security video systems, has added to its growing product list a new generation SightSensor thermal camera.

The SightSensor is a video analytic camera specifically designed for outdoor perimeter and area security, day and night, in zero light and all weather and geographies. It could prove particularly useful for facilities managers of universities, hospitals, and other facilities who have a good number of people coming and going from buildings in the evening and early morning.

Cost-effective for both shorter (90m) and longer (600m) ranges, the thermal SightSensor leverages powerful on-board video processing for high probability of detect and low nuisance alarm rates, while producing the clearest thermal images and most accurate analytics at a greatly reduced cost, according to SightLogix designers. The SightSensor consists of a thermal imager, complete with lens optics, electronic stabilization, image contrast enhancement, video analytics software, camera control, and geospatial target tracking within a ruggedized, NEMA 4X nitrogen-purged housing.

Also, according to the company, with their higher level of imaging processing, each SightSensor camera can cover wider areas or greater distances, as much as three times the coverage area of other surveillance cameras. This means that SightLogix systems require fewer cameras, reducing the supporting infrastructure (poles, trenching, networking, power, etc.) and associated costs. As a result, SightSensor cameras can lower installation, infrastructure and overall project costs by one-third versus alternatives.

“The new generation SightSensor takes the most accurate outdoor security available and makes it affordable for mainstream markets,” said John Romanowich, president and CEO of SightLogix. “The SightSensor brings thermal video analytics to price parity with visible cameras and other modalities for perimeter security.”

In addition to thermal, the new SightSensor camera is also available in a lower-cost day/night visible version.
