ComEd says demand is high for energy efficiency upgrade program

by Rebecca Walker — September 17, 2008 ComEd, based in Chicago, says it is experiencing high demand for the high-efficiency energy upgrade incentives available through its Smart Ideas for Your Business program, which can result in significant energy and cost savings for business customers.

As of Sept. 1, less than two months after the program launch, more than 430 applications have been submitted and more than 85 percent of funds for the first year of this three-year program have been reserved.

“Smart Ideas” is a portfolio of incentives to encourage business owners to invest in energy efficient equipment and systems. The portfolio will place ComEd among the top tier of utilities in the nation within a few years, in terms of annual electricity savings achieved through energy efficiency, it says. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Acme Industries, one of the first to sign on, saved approximately 45 percent on the cost of new energy efficient lighting, says ComEd.
