Corbin Russwin launches intelligent Power over Ethernet access control solution

by Brianna Crandall — April 17, 2013—Facilities managers and owners looking to upgrade their building’s access control system or to choose a system for a new building project may be interested in the Access 800 IP1 intelligent Power over Ethernet (PoE) access control locking solution newly launched by Corbin Russwin, an ASSA ABLOY Group brand.

The Access 800 IP1 integrates an ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 Corbin Russwin lock with a contactless card reader, door status monitoring, and controller into a single device, and connects to the building’s access control system. This is an ideal solution for corporate and educational campuses, healthcare facilities and other buildings looking for a cost-effective, easy-to-install, and sustainable solution for bringing online access control to more doors.

Corbin Russwin’s Access 800 IP1 PoE lock uses a single Ethernet cable for both power and data, eliminating the need for any additional power supply or electrical wiring. It uses existing IEEE 802.3af PoE infrastructure to streamline the installation process, reduce costs, and enable real-time communication. With a maximum power consumption of 7 watts per activation at each lock, the IP1 reportedly uses 50 percent less power than traditional access control solutions using PoE. It also uses significantly less power in standby than traditional access control, says the company.

Using the Local Area Network and HID 125 kHz Prox or 13.56 MHz iCLASS credentials, the Access 800 IP1 offers complete access control features such as built-in door status monitoring and real-time configurable alarm notifications. Local decision making ensures operation regardless of network status. The IP1 integrates with a broad range of industry-leading access control systems, offering seamless expansion of existing systems.

The Access 800 IP1 PoE lock is available in cylindrical lock, mortise lock, and exit device configurations. The lock supports 2,400 users and a 10,000-event audit trail. It is also available with a keypad option for two-factor authentication, and a variety of finishes and Museo decorative levers for a consistent design aesthetic.

For over 160 years, Corbin Russwin has been a premier manufacturer of architectural hardware, providing exceptional security and design solutions for institutions nationwide. The company’s wide range of products includes access control solutions, life-safety solutions, a wide range of locksets, exit devices, levers, trim and more.
