CoreNet Global/Arup tool enables corporations to compare sustainability programs globally

by Brianna Crandall — May 30, 2014—CoreNet Global, worldwide association for corporate real estate (CRE) and workplace professionals, service providers and economic developers, has teamed with multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm Arup to deliver to the corporate community a detailed analysis of the various energy- and water-related credit requirements for major sustainability programs globally.

The International Sustainability Systems Comparison report compares the following major sustainability systems applicable to new commercial office building construction used globally, including an in-depth evaluation of the use of each in its country of origin (as listed) and how each has been adapted internationally:

  • BREEAM: Building Research Establishment’s (BRE) Environmental Assessment Method, United Kingdom
  • LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, United States
  • Green Mark, Singapore
  • BEAM PLUS: Building Environmental Assessment Method, Hong Kong
  • ENERGY STAR, United States
  • NABERS Energy, Australia
  • NABERS Water, Australia

These systems are compared in terms of level of achievable certification, incremental credit requirements to achieve this certification level, and the relative emphasis for each of energy-related, water-related and other types of credits.

“The report and the online tool are designed to help corporations, and particularly multinational corporations, understand the complexities and the nuances of the programs that they may be eligible for and to wade through the various criteria,” said Angela Cain, CEO of CoreNet Global. “We believe this report fills a significant void in the corporate real estate industry, as there has never before been this type of baseline comparison.”
