by Shane Henson — June 30, 2014—Surfaces that appear clean often still harbor bacteria and viruses can that negatively impact people’s health, especially those seeking treatment within hospitals. In an effort to ensure both patient and worker safety, Crothall Healthcare, a support services provider in healthcare, announced that it has selected Hygiena to provide adenosine triphosphate (ATP) cleaning verification systems to all of its environmental services facilities.

Hygiena’s SystemSURE Plus ATP system is a handheld instrument that measures ATP, a molecule found in all living things. Swab samples are quickly collected from patient rooms and other high-touch point areas in a healthcare environment and measured immediately in the Hygiena instrument, giving instant feedback on cleanliness. Results are stored in the instrument and then uploaded to data tracking and trending software.

The software’s preprogrammed and custom reports analyze the data and generate reports that are automatically e-mailed to user-designated recipients. These reports help facilities identify trouble zones and troubleshoot cleaning failures, and are helpful in environmental services team meetings to illustrate cleaning compliance and improvements, the company says.

“We have tried other ATP systems, but Hygiena’s system, customer support, training, and software provide an advantage over what we had been using, and economically, Hygiena allows us to provide the best system and service to our healthcare clients,” says Rich Feczko, Crothall national director of systems, standards, innovation, and global support.

According to Hygiena, studies in recent years have shown the implementation of a monitoring program such as Hygiena’s SystemSURE Plus ATP Cleaning Verification System immediately improves compliance to cleaning procedures, resulting in a cleaner hospital, which correlates with decreased healthcare-associated infection rates, and improved patient experiences.

The SystemSURE Plus product page offers a training video explaining the technology.
