Daytime cleaning catching on as “green” solution

by Brianna Crandall — May 11, 2011—Daytime cleaning, already popular in Europe, on the U.S. West Coast, and in corporate headquarters-rich Atlanta, is becoming more common in offices across the United States, according to a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer, via The Columbus Dispatch.

According to the article, commercial property owners who have switched to daytime cleaning expect the practice to catch on quickly. They say that the practice reduces energy usage and operating costs, at least in part because lights and heat are not needed to the same extent during the night.

Both employees and cleaners have to get used to working at the same time, notes the report, but such familiarity leads to better results. The employees and cleaners get to know each other, the cleaners feel more accountable and their work-life balance improves, and reports of workstation theft “all but disappear.”
