January 23, 2008—Georgia-Pacific Gypsum LLC has introduced significant enhancements to its flagship DensGlass Gold exterior sheathing.
The enhanced mats offer better wind uplift resistance, are easier to handle, and require less primer for self-adhered membranes, says the company.
DensGlass Gold exterior sheathing features a moisture-resistant core and enhanced fiberglass mats, instead of paper facings, to resist the effects of moisture exposure during and after construction. DensGlass Gold is the only fiberglass mat gypsum sheathing with a 12-month weather exposure limited warranty, according to the company.
The company asserts that the proven moisture- and mold-resistant fiberglass mat technology found in DensGlass Gold exterior sheathing is a superior choice for architects and builders who are concerned about construction schedules that might be delayed by adverse weather conditions.
DensGlass Gold exterior sheathing can withstand winds in excess of 155 mph (Category 5 hurricane) when installed horizontally with the appropriate screw type and spacing over a properly engineered wall system and in accordance with the appropriate specifications.
