DHS announces public awareness partnership with Westfield shopping centers

by Brianna Crandall — December 18, 2015—The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced the expansion of the “If You See Something, Say Something” public awareness campaign with the Westfield Corporation, making the campaign materials visible to holiday shoppers at Westfield shopping centers across the country.

Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorka reminds:

Homeland security begins with hometown security, and everyone plays a role in keeping our local communities safe. We thank Westfield Corporation for their commitment to the safety and security of our communities.

The “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign — originally implemented by New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority and now licensed to DHS for a nationwide campaign — is a simple and effective program to engage the public and key frontline employees to identify and report indicators of terrorism and terrorism-related crime to the proper law enforcement authorities.

The campaign has grown to include partnerships with numerous sports teams and leagues, transportation agencies, private sector partners, states, municipalities, and colleges and universities. DHS also has “If You See Something, Say Something” Public Service Announcements (PSAs) that have been distributed to television and radio stations across the country.

The Department launched the campaign nationally to raise awareness among America’s businesses, communities, and citizens about how they can remain vigilant and play an active role in keeping the country safe. Businesses and organizations of all types and sizes are encouraged to find out more and become a partner with the campaign.
