by Shane Henson — November 7, 2011—Digimerge Technologies, a developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital video recorders (DVRs) and cameras for the professional security integration market, recently announced that two of its DVR products just became even more easy to operate. The company’s DH230 and DH250 “Touch Series” DVRs are now compatible with Windows 7 Touch Screen enabled monitors. These DVRs may now be controlled and operated by simply tapping and swiping the screen. According to the company, adding touch screen capability is easily accomplished by downloading and installing the firmware update available on the Digimerge Web site.
Touch Screen compatibility offers highly convenient and user-friendly navigation. Commenting on this new development, Digimerge executive vice president Wayne Hurd said, “Digimerge is the first manufacturer of professional CCTV equipment to offer a commercial-enterprise grade DVR with a touch-enabled user interface. End users can hide the remote control, lock up the DVR, and enjoy the simplicity of the fingertip style of navigation they already experience with our suite of mobile app’s.”
The touch screen monitor connects to the DH230 / DH250 Series DVR via USB cable and drivers are automatically installed. Video can be transmitted by VGA, HDMI, or DVI cable (using a DVI-to-HDMI adapter). Once connected, the user can easily tap their way through all the DVR’s functions. For example, double-tapping an individual screen in multi-screen mode goes to full-screen, and double-tapping again reverts to multi-screen. Channels can be repositioned by dragging and dropping a screen into another channel section, thus enabling customization of viewing.
Pressing and holding anywhere on the screen activates the virtual remote—an on-screen version of the remote control, providing the same functionality as the physical remote control included with the system. In menu navigation, selecting various options is easily achieved by tapping the on-screen enter/exit buttons.
