Digital Lumens tapped to supply Intelligent Lighting System for U.S. Cold Storage

by Rebecca Walker — December 22, 2010—United States Cold Storage, Inc., a leading refrigerated storage and logistics companies, has selected and deployed the Digital Lumens Intelligent Lighting System in its Hazleton, Pennsylvania facility, Digital Lumens announced.

The new lighting system costs 3.5 cents per square foot per year, compared to 46 cents per square foot for traditional alternatives, according to the company. With its low kWh consumption, the Digital Lumens system generates 93 percent less carbon dioxide than traditional systems, and the LightRules lighting management software provides detailed operational reports on daily kWh usage and facility occupancy patterns.

USCS worked with Groom Energy Systems, an energy efficiency consulting firm and Digital Lumens reseller, on the project, and expects a return on investment of 14.6 months. PPL Corporation, the local utility, provided the project incentive.

Digital Lumens develops LED-based Intelligent Lighting Systems that reduce industrial customers’ lighting-related electricity expenses up to 90 percent and transform lighting into a managed asset, improving efficiency, control and operational insight. For more on the company, see its Web site.
