DOE recognizes efficient manufacturers with 2010 Save Energy Now awards

by jbs051710 h3 — May 19, 2010—The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently recognized 151 U.S. manufacturers for their outstanding achievements in industrial energy efficiency with the third annual Save Energy Now Awards.

Winning plants and companies were recognized for actively pursuing energy-saving opportunities identified during a 2009 Save Energy Now energy assessment, which has led to a total of more than $32 million in cost savings and 4 trillion Btu in total energy savings over the past year.

In 2009, more than 500 plants applied for and received energy assessments by a DOE Energy Expert or university-based Industrial Assessment Center. Companies receiving 2010 Save Energy Now awards reported their energy assessment results and met the following criteria one year later:

  • Energy Saver: More than 75,000 million Btu total energy savings or more than 7.5 percent total energy savings.

  • Energy Champion: More than 250,000 million Btu total energy savings or more than 15 percent total energy savings.

In the most recent round of awards, DOE recognized 95 plants with the Energy Saver award and 56 plants with the Energy Champion award at the Energy Efficiency Global Forum in Washington, DC.
