by Ann Withanee — August 1, 2011—The latest entry in the expanding line of bike shelters from Duo-Gard Industries specifically addresses the issue of security, a growing concern in a growing industry, notes the company. Duo-Gard’s new Harbor model includes options for secured gates plus code, key or card access.
Styled as a three-sided, quarter-round structure, the shelter features translucent multiwall polycarbonate glazing in a choice of opal, clear, bronze, green or blue tints. Framing for the Harbor model is heavy-gauge steel or aluminum and includes surface-mounted anchors. Standard sizes include 8′ x 12′, 8′ x 24′, 8′ x 36′, and 8′ x 48′. As with all Duo-Gard bike shelters, custom sizes are available.
The first Harbor shelter was recently installed on an expansive corporate campus of a Midwest laboratory. “This is a setting that combines sophisticated surroundings with convenience for the employees. They wanted a solution that would combine security with style and complement the campus,” said Michael Arvidson, Duo-Gard’s executive vice president.
Duo-Gard’s line of standard shelters now offers a choice of nine models, geared to help promote alternative transportation with LEED compliance. The company provides design, engineering, fabrication and installation services across the country. Stamped drawings are available for all 50 states. Experts at the company collaborate closely with customers on recommendations, building codes and bike parking guidelines.
