EIA analyzes impacts of American Clean Energy and Security Act

by Jbs081009 i3 — August 12, 2009 – The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released a report, Energy Market and Economic Impacts of H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, in response to a request from Chairman Henry Waxman and Chairman Edward Markey for an analysis of their climate change legislation.

The report examines the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA), a complex bill that regulates emissions of greenhouse gases through market-based mechanisms, efficiency programs, and economic incentives. EIA is the independent statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

EIA prepared a range of analysis cases for this report to demonstrate the sensitivity of the results to areas of uncertainty, including the role of emission “offsets” and the timing, cost, and public acceptance of low- and no-carbon technologies in the electricity sector.

The report is available from the EIA Web site.
