by Brianna Crandall — August 20, 2014—The Electronic Security Association (ESA) recently announced the release of a new guide to help security industry executives, building owners and facilities managers in charge of security manage changes to their companies’ product and technology mix. ESA also re-launched its sister Web site, the home of the Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF), to help visitors find research pertaining to the electronic security and life safety industry.
ESA Product Selection Guide
The ESA Product Selection Guide was produced by ESA’s Executive Management Professionals (EMPs) group in conjunction with Bentley University. In a survey released in January 2013, the EMPs rated managing changes to their companies’ product/technology mix as the most important aspect of change management for their companies’ executive management teams. These results were the impetus for developing this guide.
The guide, funded by the Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF), is designed to help ESA members work through a methodical process when evaluating new products and services to add to their businesses. Included in the guide is a product taxonomy, detailed checklist, vendor scoring system, cost benefit analysis template, and additional resources that ESA members can access.
An initial focus group for the project confirmed that existing suppliers strongly influence consideration of new product categories. It also confirmed that marketing awareness and customer demand for products is a very important factor for dealers and integrators when considering which new products and services to add to their offering.
The guide is available from the ESA Members Only Resource Center, and is accessible by ESA members only.
Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) Web site
ESA re-launched the Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) Web site to make it easier for consumers, security professionals, journalists and public safety officials to find research pertaining to the electronic security and life safety industry. AIREF is the research arm of the security industry. It operates under the auspices of ESA.
New components of the Web site include an interactive timeline offering a glimpse at AIREF initiatives through the years and a click-through feature where users can get in-depth reports, executive summaries, press releases and security industry-related articles. An improved navigation menu allows visitors to learn more about AIREF and its board of directors, browse projects by topic, and keep up with AIREF news in the press.
A fresh, modern look complements the Web site upgrades. The new site also highlights the anticipated AIREF Golf Classic fundraising event.
