by Brianna Crandall — October 7, 2015—The Ellis Hotel of Atlanta, Georgia, has been awarded Silver Certification by Green Seal, the national environmental certification organization and provider of the original “Green Seal of Approval.” The certification was awarded under Green Seal’s GS-33 Standard for Hotels and Lodging Properties.
As a Silver certified property, The Ellis Hotel has met the comprehensive requirements of the standard, which include waste minimization, reuse, and recycling; practicing energy efficiency and conservation; managing fresh water resources and waste water; using environmentally preferable products; instituting an environmental mission and purchasing policy; and working overall to protect human and environmental health for both guests and staff.
The property must also submit to regular monitoring to assure continued compliance.
Atlanta’s Ellis Hotel is touted as a blend of an historic Peachtree Street landmark with a legendary past and an impeccable tradition for guest service, and a chic and stylish boutique decked out with every modern luxury. The unique facility features 127 luxuriously appointed guest rooms, a complimentary fitness center, tech-savvy perks like complimentary Internet, and a full-service business center, as well as nearly 1,500 square feet of “spectacularly redesigned” meeting and event space and farm-to-table cuisine at the Terrace Bistro Restaurant and Lounge.
“The awarding of Silver Certification to The Ellis Hotel marks yet another important step in what has been the transformation of lodging in the U.S.,” says Arthur B. Weissman, Ph.D., president and CEO of Green Seal. “With Green Seal-certified hotels in 17 states — and now with The Ellis Hotel joining as the fourth certified hotel in Georgia — the opportunity for travelers to choose lodging that protects the health of their guests, as well as that of the environment, is greater than ever.”
