by Brianna Crandall — April 8, 2015—Emerson Network Power, a provider of smart infrastructure technologies and a business of global technology provider Emerson, recently introduced the latest addition to its surge protection product family, which combines Emerson’s widely used surge protection technology with a state-of-the-art, Web-based power quality monitor, providing both protection and monitoring of critical power applications.

Emerson’s new advanced Transient Detection System allows users to monitor and track system anomalies such as transients, surges, swells and voltage total harmonic distortions (VTHDs), and features multiple alarm thresholds, including nine preset triggered alarm conditions and the capability for user-modified thresholds.

Additionally, the product’s monitor measures and records the magnitude and duration of transient events, then dates and time stamps the data for detailed event logging. A multi-port serial and Ethernet connection and an embedded Web page enable remote or on-site access of all information 24/7.

Surge events can put a facility at risk, reminds Emerson; understanding the severity, type and timing of an abnormal power quality event enables users to better analyze trends and more effectively manage a facility’s power quality health.
