by Shane Henson — November 21, 2012—Toshiba International Corporation’s LED Lighting Systems Division has released a new downlight designed for general-purpose lighting in commercial and residential applications.

According to Toshiba, its six-inch TLS-DMT6 LED Downlight is available in 3000, 3500 and 4000 color temperatures, and multiple trim finishes. The LED module, which provides the light source, can be changed easily without having to replace the entire downlight—making color temperature and lumen output changes easier for the likes of retailers, hoteliers, and restaurateurs.

The module is a complete lighting unit comprised of an integral driver, LED array and built-in heat sink. The heat sink is designed to dissipate the heat generated by the LEDs, thus controlling the operating temperature of the LED module to provide a high level of performance and ensure a long product life.

The spring-loaded socket with notch and marking make it very easy to line up the module and socket for ease of installation and replacement, notes the company. Using only 20 watts (1100 lumens) or 26 watts (1500 lumens), Toshiba’s downlight reportedly uses a fraction of the energy that a conventional incandescent or halogen downlight requires.

Like all of Toshiba’s lighting products, the downlight is also mercury free and offers reduced CO2 emissions through energy savings when compared to current lighting solutions, the company says.
