by Brianna Crandall — November 28, 2014—Ergonomic furniture provider Ergoprise, based in Austin, Texas, has recently developed the UpriseDesk. The company says it goal in creating the desk was “to offer the highest quality standing desk that any Fortune 100 company would be proud to use, while offering a price point that anyone can afford.” The desk is available as a base only, or with a number of tabletop options including bamboo and other fine hardwood tops. Ergoprise says the UpriseDesk leads the pack of sit/stand desks in terms of price, speed, stability, and noise level.

All sit/stand desks provide a way for users to combat the physiological changes associated with “sitting disease,” which has been termed the “smoking of the new millennium,” as it has been found to have just as many harmful effects, reminds Ergoprise. The company says the distinguishing characteristic of the UpriseDesk is that it has the speed and performance to be used as it is intended to be used—moving throughout the day. The desk is engineered to be fast, moving at 1.7 inches a second, which Ergoprise says is unlike most electric desks, which can move so slowly that they can cause the user to be become disenchanted and not want to use the equipment. When properly using a sit-to-stand desk, one should change positions numerous times during the work period, notes Ergoprise.

The UpriseDesk is also distinctive in that it is designed to be nearly silent at 39 decibels. The desk’s normal sound output when raised or lowered is commonly referred to as “library quiet,” says Ergoprise. This element is especially important when the desk is deployed in expansive cubical settings or open collaborative layouts; when there is a lack of walls, it is crucial that the desk is quiet while moving so it will not disturb others, notes the company.

Ergoprise says the UpriseDesk also beats the competition in terms of sturdiness, stability and power consumption. The desk’s three-stroke lifting columns raise and lower the desk from 24″ to 50.75″ high. Its motors have 360 pounds of lifting power, and there is very little side-to-side movement, even when the desk is fully extended or at its maximum height of over 51.” In terms of power consumption, the Uprise is one of the greenest electric desks on the market, using only 0.06 watts of power when in standby mode, claims the company.

The standing desk can be purchased as a base-only option, which allows the user to keep an existing desktop (see size guidelines), which Ergoprise notes is a great way to recycle and reuse. If a desktop needs to be purchased, Ergoprise offers a variety of tops, from GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified and GREENGUARD for Children and Schools Certified laminates to environmentally harvested bamboo for an additional cost.

A progressive computer processor manufacturer based in Sunnyvale, California, with another major campus in Austin, Texas, is reportedly one of a number of large and small corporations that have committed to using the Uprise Desk to serve the needs of all its employees.
