by Rebecca Walker — October 8, 2010—A survey called “Not in my Department?” from green IT specialist Externus found a variety of officials in charge of green initiatives for companies.
One-third of U.K. professionals surveyed reported that, in their organizations, directors and senior management were in charge of green initiatives. For other businesses, responsibility was mixed: 17 percent identified the facilities manager while 13 percent said it fell to a dedicated “green” person.
Other roles identified as having environmental policy responsibilities included office managers or administrators (6 percent) and human resources (4 percent).
An additional 8 percent were unsure who held responsibility, and 10 percent reported nobody in their organization was in charge of environmental initiatives.
The areas of business that respondents felt most benefited from green improvements included information technology (67 percent), marketing (52 percent), finance (51 percent) and human resources (39 percent).
The survey was carried out in April and May. Respondents included directors, information technology workers and chief executives within finance, telecoms, retail, local government and healthcare sectors. For more information, see the Externus Web site.
