by Shane Henson — July 6, 2012—Through the recent merger of three janitorial services and supply companies, facilities managers can turn to just one company to help meet a range of needs, including critical environment janitorial cleaning; sustainable maintenance, repair and operations (MRO); green cleaning; and post-construction “final clean” services that help facilities comply with requirements for the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.
The new company, Preferred Service Group LLC (PSG), combines the supply chain and client management expertise of Facility Supply Group (FSG) with the grassroots, janitorial services operational expertise of Kearny, New Jersey-based Preferred Building Services Inc. and Kenilworth, New Jersey-based Eastern Janitorial Services. While all three will continue to operate as stand-alone companies, virtually all FSG clients will now be serviced by the new PSG company.
Like Facility Supply Group (a Tier 1 and Tier 2 diversity supplier), the new PSG will allow its customers to comply with diversity purchasing goals and share in cost-saving best practices developed over two-plus decades. In addition, the new firm’s environmentally sustainable MRO products can reportedly help its governmental clients support energy and environmental block grant programs for energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emission reductions.
PSG is currently pursuing certification to the International Sanitary Supply Association’s (ISSA) Cleaning Industry Management Standard-Green Building (CIMS-GB) program, which ensures that cleaning organizations use environmentally preferable cleaning practices and products in line with the USGBC’s LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EBOM) system. Preferred Building Services says it currently holds the CIMS-GB certification with honors.
“From green janitorial services and MRO supplies to an array of other specialty services, PSG will offer everything businesses and institutional facilities need to keep their operations running smoothly, while simplifying and streamlining the procurement process and complying with environmental sustainability initiatives,” says John W. Fowler, CEO and president of PSG, and CEO and chairman of FSG.
