by Brianna Crandall — May 6, 2015—Park View Office Tower in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, has become the first office building in Central Asia to gain a certificated rating to the internationally recognized BREEAM In-Use sustainability standard, which helps building managers, investors, owners and occupiers reduce the running costs and improve the environmental performance of existing non-domestic buildings.
A large business center in the heart of Almaty’s historic city center, Park View Office Tower attained a “Very Good” rating for Building Management under BREEAM In-Use International, which was adapted for assessing assets anywhere in the world, and has already been used in more than 25 countries.
“Park View Office Tower is an excellent example of what can be achieved with a responsible and sustainable approach to the building management process,” says Lukasz Skowronski, Commercial director at Global Development, the building’s owner and a leading player in Kazakhstan’s commercial real estate market.
The 1052 sq m of leasable office space on each level of the 16-floor Park View Office Tower is reported to be highly sought-after by firms based in Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan and a major commercial and cultural center. The building also has a canteen, food court, restaurant and cafeteria facilities, a hi-tech meeting and conference room, and a free Wi-Fi zone. Park View was also recognized as “The Best Grade-A Office Building in Kazakhstan” at the annual awards of the Commercial Real Estate Week, recently held in Astana.
BREEAM In-Use assessments are carried out by an international network of independent, licensed assessors such as Drees & Sommer, who audited Park View Office Tower. “We are constantly working with the best real estate consultancies to help us implement the best practices in our day-to-day operations,” says Skowronski, “and that is why we chose Drees & Sommer as our project consultants and licensed assessors.”
BREEAM is an internationally recognized measure of sustainability for buildings and communities, used in more than 70 countries. More than 425,000 certificates have been issued under BREEAM on more than 24,000 projects around the world, and 1.9 million buildings and communities are registered for certification.
