Flex Your Power awards recognize CA energy management

by Jbs123008 h3 — January 2, 2009—The 2008 Flex Your Power Awards were presented recently by the Flex Your Power campaign, a partnership of California’s utilities, residents, businesses, institutions, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations working to save energy.

The 6th annual awards acknowledge organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies that have shown leadership and made exceptional contributions toward saving energy in California. The winners from this year collectively saved more than $227 million, 1.5 billion kilowatt hours, and 122 billion gallons of water, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1.3 billion pounds, according to the campaign.

Winners and Honorable Mentions were presented in five categories: Energy Efficiency,

Media and Education, Innovative Products and/or Services, Peak Demand Response, and Water Conservation/Efficiency.

This year’s Best Overall Award Winners include: Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center; University of California—Irvine; California Academy of Sciences; and Sustainable Spaces; with a Lifetime Achievement Award to Susan P Kennedy, Chief of Staff for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Energy Efficiency Award Winners: Baxter Healthcare Corporation’s Thousand Oaks, CA, BioScience Facility; CalPortland Company; Del Monte Foods Plant #1 Modesto; Fetzer Vineyards; Glenborough, LLC; Global Real Estate Hewlett Packard Company; Honeywell Utility Solutions; Integrated Design Associates, Inc. (IDeAs); Macy’s West; Moorpark Unified School District; Pleasanton Unified School District; County of San Mateo; The State of California Franchise Tax Board; The Boeing Company; and Watkins Manufacturing.

Education & Media Award Winners: Build It Green; Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.; The City of Irvine; Vandenberg Air Force Base; Webcor Builders; and Yahoo!

Innovative Products & Services Award Winners: American Home Sales; E-Mon, LLC; Eneron Inc.; Green Building Energy Resources Los Angeles Distributor for Endothermic Solutions; Mi Casa Verde; and Pools by Ben, Inc.

Peak Demand Response Award Winners: AmeriCold; California State University San Marcos; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Cisco Systems Inc.; City Of South Gate; Furnace Creek Inn & Ranch Resort; Irvine Ranch Water District; Pfizer Inc.; Semitropic Water Storage District; and US FoodService—San Francisco.
