by Shane Henson — s September 28, 2012—Foscarini, an Italian company dedicated to presenting new ideas in lighting worldwide, has launched Magneto by Giulio Iacchetti and Innerlight by Simon Pengelly for those wanting to enhance their office, hospitality, residential or other spaces with elegant and modern lighting solutions.
Magneto, which can serve as a table or floor lamp, has a strong, minimalist silhouette and features a magnetic sphere that joins its two essential elements: the support rod with a circular base, and the LED light.
The light, which resembles a flashlight or a microphone, is extremely versatile to angle and position along the stand, thanks to the magnet’s power of attraction. It has been designed with a special channel to house the cable. The supporting stand of the table version can also be rotated 360° on the base, making Magneto an extremely flexible lamp, suitable for a wide range of uses.
The LED light source, chosen as the best expression of the design’s formal and functional rigor, provides an intense, concentrated and precise beam of light. The light can be focused downward to light a small area, like a book, a magazine or a computer keyboard, or upwards to create a soft effect and an intriguing atmosphere. Its color—red or grey—is a fundamental element of this lamp, adds Foscarini.

Innerlight, on the other hand, was conceived as a wall sculpture, drawing inspiration from the works of American sculptor Richard Serra, says the designer. The simple form is composed of three overlapping bands, slightly concave and at different angles. Once lit, the lamp creates an elegant interplay of shadow and light. The light beam bouncing off the wall emphasizes outlines of the overlapping bands. While the light spreads from the inside from each of the three bands, it extends in different directions.
The light source comprises two fluorescent bulbs placed on different levels, ensuring strong lighting in every direction. A translucent polycarbonate shell supports the shape and hides the technical parts. Ideal for both residential and contract use, Innerlight is available in two versions: white, representing purity, explains the company, or in a particular textured finish designed to underline depth.
