by Rebecca Walker — April 1, 2009—GelPro, a leading provider of premium gel-filled ergonomic floor mats, was selected by ABC-TV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to provide mats for the Phelan, Calif. home featured on a recent two-hour special. The house was built for the Almquists, a family dedicated to rescuing exotic animals from abuse and neglect and sheltering them at the Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary based out of their home.

Previously, the Almquist family lived in an aging doublewide trailer held together by duct tape with no heat or air conditioning and leaking pipes. The Almquists were struggling to support their animal sanctuary, so Extreme Makeover: Home Edition built a home with both family members and animals in mind. The home’s second kitchen was designed especially to ease the process that goes into preparing the animals’ food as it requires special attention and hours of the Almquist’s time.
The donated ergonomic GelPro Mats, in Basketweave Black and Basketweave Truffle, were placed in this kitchen to alleviate some of the pain and discomfort associated with long hours in the kitchen, but also to add a touch of style to the kitchen floor.
