by Brianna Crandall — March 31, 2014—Genetec, a global provider of unified Internet protocol (IP) security solutions, has announced it plans to support the ASSA ABLOY Aperio wireless lock technology in its Synergis IP-based access control solution. With an expected general availability in the second quarter of 2014, this integration will allow the Synergis Master Controller (SMC)—the intelligent IP door controller of the Synergis solution—to manage Aperio-enabled locking hardware, offering customers wireless lock capabilities within any networked access control deployment.
Aperio is a global wireless technology that is said to provide an easy, affordable way to connect openings from doors to cabinets, within a new or an existing Synergis access control system via wireless communication (IEEE 802.15.4). The Genetec SMC will communicate directly with the Aperio wireless hubs, which in turn will support several Aperio-enabled wireless locks. A single SMC will communicate with and manage dozens of wireless locks in real-time, while also offering the ability to log tens of thousands of lock events when needed, says Genetec.
This latest technology partnership integration will help Genetec and ASSA ABLOY customers worldwide to easily grow their existing access control systems without the limitations, cost and inconvenience of wiring, explains Genetec. In addition to wiring savings, the availability of the Aperio wireless lock technology will allow organizations to easily expand the reach of their access control systems and secure openings that would otherwise go unprotected.
Through this integration, users will be able to deploy a new Synergis system that seamlessly bridges traditional access control hardware with wireless lock technology, says the company. Likewise, existing Aperio customers will be able to migrate to a true IP access control solution while maintaining their existing investment in Aperio hardware. As the needs of an organization evolve, Synergis reportedly enables hundreds or thousands of locks to be networked within a single security application, simplifying centralized wireless lock monitoring and reporting across one or multiple sites.
“Through our close partnership with ASSA ABLOY and the integration of Aperio technology, our dealers and customers will have even more options when designing their physical security system,” explains Jimmy Palatsoukas, Senior Manager of Product Marketing at Genetec. “Using their Synergis system, customers will be able to configure and monitor wireless locks, together with their wired IP-based door controllers, from a single application. When Synergis and Aperio-enabled locks are deployed alongside Genetec video surveillance products, users will be able to view all of their lock events and activities seamlessly linked with live or recorded video, giving security professionals a more complete view of their organization’s security.”
“We are pleased to expand our already strong relationship with Genetec,” said Martin Huddart, President Access and Egress Hardware Group, ASSA ABLOY Americas. “The combination of Aperio-enabled locks with the Genetec Synergis platform will offer our customers worldwide a flexible solution that will allow them to expand their access control system to almost every opening in their facility. The breadth of the Aperio platform provides the unique ability to address applications never before possible, such as medical supply cabinets and IT/server cabinets,” added Huddart.
