Glimcher partners with Boingo Wireless to bring wireless Internet access to malls

by Shane Henson — January 18, 2012—Customers walking into bookstores, coffee houses, and even places with heavy traffic such as airports have come to expect the ability to connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi. Now, mall visitors will soon be able to log on, too.

Boingo Wireless, Inc., a major provider of Wi-Fi software and services worldwide, has announced an agreement with Glimcher Realty Trust to manage Wi-Fi services at 18 Glimcher regional shopping centers nationwide that enjoy more than 105 million shoppers annually.

Based on the company’s industry-leading neutral host roaming platform, Boingo will manage the customer Wi-Fi experience within the food courts of each shopping center. Guests can access Boingo Wi-Fi on their smartphones, tablets and laptops as a complimentary service while dining at one of many eateries, or taking a moment to relax during their shopping excursion. The networks will also be easily accessible to customers of more than a dozen of Boingo’s roaming partners, including Skype and Verizon.

“With the proliferation of Wi-Fi enabled tablets and smartphones, shopping today is an increasingly connected experience,” said Joe DeStasio, business development manager for Boingo Wireless. “Teaming with Glimcher allows us to provide our easy-to-use Wi-Fi services to more shoppers in diverse markets, and gives our existing customers and roaming partners new access points in communities nationwide.”
