Global real estate groups FIABCI, ICREA sign alliance agreement, explore unification

by Brianna Crandall — June 3, 2011—On May 27, international real estate organizations FIABCI and ICREA took a formal step towards a more collaborative alliance and the possibility for a unified organization with the signing of an alliance in Berlin. The two organizations have been meeting periodically to discuss ways to optimize the combined strength of the two groups and maximize the benefits for the professional real estate community throughout the world.

The two share a vision for a global leading organization representing all sectors of the property industry. Recognizing the economic and political challenges facing industry professional groups, both organizations see the benefit of coordinated activities to achieve an economy of scale for their respective member associations and individual members. Both groups have approved direct membership affiliation in each other’s organizations, while affirming they will retain their own history and traditions.

Both world organizations are dedicated to promoting and facilitating international trade in property, to delivering services for cross-border transactions and referrals in a more efficient and effective matter, and to representing the real estate industry worldwide and setting standards for property processes internationally. The two boards will discuss unification in the coming months in consultation with their respective members.

The International Consortium of Real Estate Associations (ICREA) is an alliance of more than 45 of the world’s leading real estate associations. ICREA promotes its members’ businesses internationally, works to improve the way real property is transacted across national borders, and advocates for the industry on global issues.

FIABCI, the International Real Estate Federation, is a federation of almost 100 national real estate associations, over 3000 individual real estate professionals, and more than 65 academic institutions located in 68 countries worldwide. The non-political entity’s objective is to help its members from all real estate industry disciplines add an international dimension to their businesses. Its 48 chapters help members acquire knowledge, develop networks and optimize business opportunities around the world.
