by Shane Henson — June 21, 2013—Green Ballast Inc, a Memphis-based energy solutions company, recently announced that it has improved the quality of lighting and helped reduce energy costs for 11 schools in Tennessee’s Shelby County School District.
As part of the lighting project it completed for the district, Green Ballast says it used its patented daylight harvesting fluorescent light ballasts and performed a complete energy-efficient lighting upgrade on the 11 schools that included new lights in the classrooms, hallways, offices and some of the gyms and auditoriums.
“Performing the complete lighting upgrade for the eleven Shelby County Schools is an example of Green Ballast being a total solution provider of complete lighting upgrades,” said Kevin B. Clarkson of Green Ballast. “In addition to providing daylight harvesting, we implemented other strategies, including LED down lighting, exit lighting and fluorescent high-bay fixtures. This is a business model that we are now expanding on a national basis, and adding diversity to our revenue base.”
The school expects to see energy savings of 30 to 70 percent through the replacement of its lights, as well as a reduction in repair and maintenance costs.
