Green Ballast’s light ballasts chosen to help reduce lighting costs in Kansas City building

by Shane Henson — December 26, 2012—Green Ballast Inc., a producer of what it says is the most cost-efficient energy-saving ballast in the lighting industry, announced that the company’s patented daylight harvesting fluorescent light ballasts have been installed in The Broadway Square Building, a 12-story office building in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

Burns & McDonnell, a Kansas City-based construction, engineering and consulting firm, served as general contractor for the building’s upgrade, which included the adoption of Green Ballast’s ballasts as a direct replacement for the existing “standard ballast.”

According to Green Ballast, the new ballasts adjust power consumption for each lighting fixture, while measuring and harvesting available daylight to calculate and provide only the amount of needed electricity for proper lighting. The company provides a “plug and play” solution entailing controls within each ballast, providing simple and efficient installation and ongoing maintenance. As a result of the new ballasts, lighting consumption costs in the Broadway Square building should be reduced by more than 50 percent, a savings which will be repeated annually for years to come, says Green Ballast.
