Green building pioneer named to new Sustainable Building Technology Committee

by Rebecca Walker — July 29, 2009 Ron Jones, green building pioneer and co-founder of Green Builder Media, has been selected as a member of the recently formed Sustainable Building Technology Committee (SBTC) of the International Code Council (ICC) charged with developing the initial draft of the newly announced International Green Construction Code, or IGCC.

Committee meetings will commence later this month and are scheduled to continue through January 2010.

Jones, a licensed general contractor for more than 25 years, served as chairman of the consensus committee that developed the National Green Building Standard (also known as ICC 700-2008) which was approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in January of 2009.

As part of his duties with Green Builder Media, Jones has worked with a wide variety of trade groups, government agencies, and building product manufacturers such as the Whirlpool Corp., Kohler, and MASCO. He is the only person to have served on the Boards of Directors of both the U.S. Green Building Council and the National Association of Home Builders.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and ASTM International are cooperating sponsors for this important project and will have visible participation in the development process. Public information will be available throughout on the Web site.
