Green Roof Blocks introduces vegetative retaining wall system

by Brianna Crandall — February 28, 2011—Green Wall Blocks, a new product designed and developed by Green Roof Blocks, is made to take the hassle out of building retaining walls.

Made of UV-resistant plastic, Green Wall Blocks’ nine-inch-tall retaining wall blocks are lightweight, can be transported in the trunk of a car and easily carried to the job site, and allow a retaining wall to be built in a fraction of the time it takes to build a wall using heavy concrete blocks or railroad ties, says the company.

Whereas concrete walls can trap and radiate heat, Green Wall Blocks are designed to help cool the ambient air around the home or commercial property, while absorbing and reducing storm water runoff. A special connection system allows them to rapidly link together to form a flexible retaining wall along a tight radius, says the company.

In addition, each Block provides 1/2 cu. ft. planting bed with “unlimited” plant options. Green Wall Blocks contain vegetation in one hundred percent of the wall and provide plant growth no matter which direction the wall faces, adds the company.

The Blocks are environmentally friendly and available for purchase at local nurseries for spring 2011, in green or brown. The Blocks are bundled in fives, can be broken apart to fit any size project, and are useful to build any size wall. Once the bottom course is set on leveled ground, each subsequent course is set back nine inches, establishing a 45-degree wall profile so that even plants on the northern exposure get direct sun.
