by Ann Withanee — October 7, 2011—Designed for building owners and facilities executives in search of eco-friendly flooring, the Lifeline series of resilient flooring, manufactured by the Finnish company Upofloor OY and distributed in the United States by Altro Floors as the CS Line, was named a green product in BuildingGreen’s list of Top-10 Green Building Products for 2012 awards program.

The heavy-traffic commercial flooring contains no PVC, plasticizers, phthalates, halogens (including chlorine or bromine), or heavy metals. The green product was displayed at the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild conference held recently in Toronto.

Made primarily from limestone along with an ethylene/methacrylic acid copolymer, thermoplastic resin binder, Lifeline has an ionomeric wear layer similar to a golf ball cover that is resistant to a wide variety of chemicals and disinfectants and requires minimal maintenance since dirt cannot penetrate its surface. Lifeline is certified as low-emitting by Floorscore and by Finland’s Building Information Foundation, which gave it an M1 rating for best-in-class, low overall lifecycle emissions. Lifeline is available in sheet form (tiles are available in Europe) and in a variety of colors and patterns.

What makes this product green? Alternatives to hazardous components; Releases minimal pollutants; Exceptional durability or low-maintenance.
