GreenPrint launches version 2.0 of paper-saving software

by Jbs071209 e3 — July 15, 2009—GreenPrint Technologies recently announced the launch of the newest version of its GreenPrint software designed to reduce waste in printing. After more than two years in development, GreenPrint Version 2.0 boasts major feature and performance improvements, most notably increasing the speed for the average user by five to 10 times that of the previous version.

The software, which eliminates unwanted pages and reduces printing by 17% or more, has been redesigned from the ground up around Microsoft’s new XPS print path. In addition to improved speed, the new architecture also provides greater waste detection functionality and better output performance.

GreenPrint software analyzes each page of every document sent to the printer and looks for typical waste characteristics (e.g. pages with just a URL, banner ad, logo, or legal jargon) and then highlights and removes them. The product also makes it easier for users to select only the pages they want to print, provides image removal options, and allows a file to be saved as a PDF rather than printing.

GreenPrint reportedly saves the average user over $90 and 1,400 wasted pages per year and allows enterprises to quantify the ecological and cost-saving benefits that result from using the software.
