by Brianna Crandall — November 17, 2014—Industrial refrigeration manufacturer Güntner’s new ECOSS evaporative cooler complements the full range of heat exchangers, be it air-cooled heat exchangers, plate heat exchangers, adiabatic and hybrid drycooler solutions and now wet solutions, offered by the group of companies consisting of Güntner (with 80 years’ experience in the industry), JAEGGI Hybridtechnologie AG, and thermowave.
ECOSS was developed for cooling solutions in the energy and process cooling sector as well as industrial refrigeration and heating/ventilation/air-conditioning (HVAC) applications. The concept was engineered specifically to these sector requirements and presents an elaborate solution for prevalent challenges like water quality, passivation and oxidation.
Longer product life
Self-passivating stainless steel obviates oxidation and provides a significantly longer product life than galvanized steel, notes Güntner. It will survive quality upset conditions, and the fans and drives are designed for evaporative service. The cooler comes with a five-year leak-free guarantee on the coils and on the fully welded stainless steel cold-water basin.
Easy installation
The units are delivered as separate coil section and basin. The modular frame design with high torsional stiffness ensures the sections remain perfectly intact during transportation, says the company. Due to the approximately 50% less rigging weight compared to conventional designs, a smaller crane is required for assembly. No further tools are needed for assembly; the box sections allow for trouble-free alignment without sealer tape, drift pins or screw tappers. Simplified rigging coupled with the factory-wired, direct-drive fans and plug-and-play controls all work together to reduce the installation labor and construction site time.
Lower operational costs
Advanced fan technology with a state-of-the-art GMM (Güntner Motor Management) controller is designed to provide superior performance and efficiency. Plus there is less overall water consumption and chemical treatment, as the stainless steel construction allows for higher cycles of concentration. Therefore, blow down is reduced, and there is no zinc or lead in the blow-down discharge.
Lower maintenance costs
Besides high operational reliability, ECOSS offers additional advantages to reduce maintenance costs. Hinged fan panels, direct-drive fans with no belts to adjust or replace, and vertically aligned inlet louvers allowing easy access to the basin are some of the features that make the Güntner ECOSS evaporative cooler a preference to service and maintain, says Güntner.
