Hara to provide energy management software to City of Philadelphia

by Rebecca Walker — September 27, 2010—Hara, a leading provider of environmental and energy management software, announced it has been selected by the City of Philadelphia to help achieve energy reduction targets associated with Greenworks Philadelphia, the City’s sustainability plan.

Launched in 2009, Greenworks aims to make Philadelphia a city in which residents and businesses benefit from lower energy costs, cleaner air, greener neighborhoods, better transit and new jobs. The plan includes sustainability goals in five focus areasenergy, environment, equity, economy and engagementand has identified 15 targets across those categories to make Philadelphia the greenest city in America by 2015.

Philadelphia, which the U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently named America’s top sustainable large city, selected Hara Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) as the software solution to track the City’s energy use and costs.

By reducing municipal energy consumption by 30 percent by 2015, Greenworks estimates the City could save as much as $10 million annually and move toward its goal of reducing vulnerability to rising energy prices.

The Hara EEM system will track and report on roughly 900 municipal buildings and provide reporting capabilities with regards to City energy use that hasn’t previously been possible. The system is being paid for using funds from the City of Philadelphia’s formula Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.

Deployed in over 90 countries, Hara EEM manages enterprise-wide energy, resources and emissions, helping organizations report and reduce their energy consumption. For more information, see the Web site.
