by Rebecca Walker — August 11, 2010—Pacific Eco-Lights, LLC, offering energy-saving LEDs that reduce electric bills and CO2 emissions, announces its newest customer: Hawaii Pacific Health (HPH) — Hawaii’s largest health care system, comprised of four nonprofit hospitals, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, Pali Momi Medical Center, Straub Clinic & Hospital and Wilcox Memorial Hospital and 44 outpatient clinics and service sites.
Hawaii Pacific Health’s decision to switch over each of the four hospital facilities to LED lighting will help reduce HPH’s carbon emissions by 465,324.65 pounds per year from just the parking garages alone, says the company. LED lighting decreases the amount of heat emitted from light bulbs, so LED retrofitted facilities don’t heat up to the high temperatures of those using compact fluorescent, halogen bulbs and fluorescent tubes. This means less energy is used on air conditioning to keep hospitals cool.
By retrofitting existing fixtures with LEDs, HPH is projected to save up to $10,000 to $12,000 per month from the conversion of just one of its parking garage facilities. HPH expects $1.2 million in combined savings per year retrofitting hallways, waiting areas, cafeterias and offices throughout its four hospitals.
