Herman Miller again tops FORTUNE category for most admired companies

by Rebecca Walker — March 8, 2010—As it has more than 20 times, Herman Miller, Inc. has once again taken the No.1 industry ranking in FORTUNE magazine’s annual “Most Admired” companies feature.

Herman Miller had the further distinction of being the only Michigan-based company to place first among the magazine’s distinct industry listings.

This year, the office furniture category was expanded by joining other members of the household goods industry in a larger hybrid Home Equipment and Furniture grouping. Also listed as most admired in the category are: Fortune Brands, Tupperware Brands, Stanley Works, Black & Decker, Steelcase and Newell Rubbermaid.

To compile the annual list, FORTUNE enlisted the help of the Hay Group, which sorted the FORTUNE 1,000 and the top foreign companies operating in the U.S. into distinct industry lists, each containing the ten largest companies. Representatives from a total of 667 companies from 33 countries were then surveyed, along with their respective industry analysts and other third party experts.

The list can be founded on FORTUNE magazines Web site.
